Fears over turbine’s affect on the autistic

By Frances Barrett  Chester Chronicle  Nov. 7, 2013

Helsby mother of autistic girl disgusted by 77m wind turbine plan

The mother of an autistic girl has told of her outrage at plans to erect a 77m wind turbine on land at Helsby railway sidings.

Clean Power Properties’ application for the 500kW turbine was called before the Cheshire West and Chester Planning Committee by Helsby ward borough councillor Les Ford last week.

Experts claim that the noise and flickering of wind turbines’ rotating blades can cause distress to people with autism.

Michelle Atkinson, whose eight-year-old daughter Josie has autism, is ‘disgusted at the lack of thought and consideration for the local community’.

She said: “My daughter is particularly aware of sounds. She can hear things that I don’t. The level of noise that wind turbines create would be something that she would pick up on.

“They have not considered the local community and it seems to be very ill thought out. The impact would be vast.”

And so it goes. And so it goes at the ERT.

Reading this post at  Ontario Wind Resistance one can finally understand what rural Ontario is really up against.  A cold, heartless legal machine that views our turbine uprising here in the outlands as an annoyance; as a pesky ant ruining their lavish picnic.

I am spending my days in the presence of evil and I am trying to cling to my shredded humanity. I look for inspiration to people like today’s witnesses, like Harvey and Esther, like Bill Palmer. All these people give up their time to work for something that they actually believe in. Countless unpaid hours. In some cases it’s years of unpaid hours.

Witnesses like the Michaud family and Nikki Horton – people who are willing to stand up in public, repeatedly, and let a bunch of scumbag lawyers dissect their entire medical history in public – imply that they are just out for money in a lawsuit, or perhaps they are just out for the publicity.

But nothing personal, you understand. It’s just another case.

Natural gas prices and renewable sources to blame for hydro bill spike

A pair of controversial energy sources are being blamed for a spike in electricity rates hitting consumers come next month.

“It looks like higher market price for natural gas was the main driver of the prices,” said Bluewater Power CEO Janice McMichael-Dennis.

A greater use of wind energy, among other renewable sources, is also at fault.

“The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) is forecasting more generation from renewable sources so that will push the price up because certainly your renewable sources of energy come at a higher price tag than your more traditional sources,” said McMichael-Dennis.

Parker Gallant, vice president of Wind Concerns Ontario, said that a chart obtained from the OEB showed just how much more money these renewable sources were costing the province.

“It showed that the supply of energy from wind, solar, and gas — because gas has to back it up — produced 17% of Ontario’s generation.  But, if you look at the cost, it’s in excess of 43% of the total global adjustment pot,” said Gallant. “Wind and solar are basically costing us a lot of money .”

Weighing Ontario’s controversial choice on nuclear power

The Long-Term Energy Plan review now underway in Ontario demands our attention despite its sleep-inducing name. The choices the Wynne government makes will affect your pocket book, our economic competitiveness and the health of our environment.

And already the review has delivered a bombshell. Earlier this month, without waiting for the final analysis, expected later this year, Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli announced that “new nuclear will not be part of the long-term energy plan.” He maintains Ontario has a “comfortable surplus of electricity” and won’t need to spend upwards of $26 billion to build new nuclear plants.

I don’t get it .   Chiarelli states that we here in Ontario have a comfortable surplus of energy.  If that is the case and we have no need to build new nuclear facilities..then what is the point of adding more useless wind turbines?  Does anyone have a clue yet that, although the wind back-up gas plants are economical now..in a short time as those prices become tied into the global market, running those plants will also become expensive.  If the Liberal government is committed to conservation and planning wisely for the future then that practical path should include rethinking their our investment in useless wind and solar.

Predicting the province’s energy future is not an exact science. New technology will change the relative advantages of our different energy sources. Greater attention to conservation could further shrink demand. At the same time, massive developments like the “Ring of Fire” mineral find in Northern Ontario and a slow renaissance in manufacturing could increase demand.

Saving billions by not investing in new nuclear plants is supported by the best available analysis. With that decision made, the minister should shift his attention to containing future energy costs for consumers and business.

Mothers Against Wind Turbines Oktoberfest Dinner

Mothers Against Wind Turbines held their second of a series of fund raising dinners at the Silverdale Community Hall in St. Anne.  Oktoberfest styled home-cooking was on the menu and the hall was packed once again.  Wind Warriors from all across Niagara, West Lincoln, Wainfleet , Haldimand and beyond gathered for an amazing meal, a few laughs and community.  It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of so many volunteers.  Thank you.

MAWT is planning another two suppers for November, so the opportunity will still be available to come out for a fun filled evening and a great home cooked meal.  Join us in Uniting the Fight in the battle against Wind development in our communities against our Consent.

The Walls are Crumbling

Unbelievable.  The U.K. has been invaded by the greenies, eco terrorists, socialists, facists like no other country on earth. (OK , except for Denmark, Germany and Spain)  But, like Spain, it is waking up to the reality that renewables will not serve a modern society.  Today an unexpected announcement from a government that takes enormous pride in its green Kool-Aid wine cellar.

A New Dawn For Nuclear Power?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/nuclearpower/10392686/A-new-dawn-for-nuclear-power.html

Hail it they might, but the reality is that this deal has come not a moment   too soon —and it is no thanks to our leaders, who have spent half a century   squandering Britain’s nuclear pre-eminence, taking a ludicrously short-term   view and chasing windmills towards a renewable future that was no more than   fantasy.

An article well worth the time to read.  I find this excerpt somewhat familiar:

An even more serious consequence was the decimation of decades worth of   expertise – Britain’s nuclear brain drain in the 1990s was a national   tragedy – and the replacement of serious energy policy with mickey-mouse   schemes to bribe locals to accept shale gas rigs with promises of free   badminton courts and community centres, and an attachment to offshore   windfarms that beggars belief.

Maybe add Santa Claus parades to that list as well. LOLOL

But here in Ontario, waking up is hard to do.  Bob…

Peter Foster: Not smart!

“The smart city may be a cover for the moralistic city, and moralism is often a cover for power-seeking.” This sentence is what disturbs me in particular. Smart, green or sustainable is just a warm, fuzzy blanket that hides something very dangerous. A controlling state.

Study Evaluates the True Cost of Windpower

Institute for Energy Research October 15, 2013

“Despite being propped up by government mandates and billion dollar subsidies for decades, wind power continues to be an expensive and boutique energy source that the American people cannot rely on for power when they need it. Although lobbyists for the wind industry prefer to downplay the real costs of wind power, Dr. Giberson has produced a fact-based study that demonstrates just how expensive it really is.”  http://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/2013/10/15/study-evaluates-the-true-costs-of-wind-power-2/

The study by Dr. Gibberson:   Assessing Wind Power Costs Estimates  can be read here:  http://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/wpcontent/uploads/2013/10/Giberson-studyFinal.pdf                                                                                                                                                                            The summary concludes that:  “The federal government devotes substantially more financial resources to subsidize the production of wind power than it does to study wind power.”  I imagine if the province of Ontario would have done due diligence , we wouldn’t be in the mess that we are in now.  Better late than never I suppose.

Here is AWEA’ s quick and blustery response to this study.  I find fact 4 particularly angering  Looking at the rising cost on our power bills shows how easily and boldly they can lie.  CANWEA, here in Ontario, has a similar propensity for storytelling.  Also known as fabricating facts.

4. All data indicate that wind energy is keeping electric bills low for

consumers. Adding wind energy to the grid displaces the most expensive

power plants first, so even modest additions of wind energy cause

significant reductions in the electricity prices paid by homeowners and

businesses.
