Helsby mother of autistic girl disgusted by 77m wind turbine plan
The mother of an autistic girl has told of her outrage at plans to erect a 77m wind turbine on land at Helsby railway sidings.
Clean Power Properties’ application for the 500kW turbine was called before the Cheshire West and Chester Planning Committee by Helsby ward borough councillor Les Ford last week.
Experts claim that the noise and flickering of wind turbines’ rotating blades can cause distress to people with autism.
Michelle Atkinson, whose eight-year-old daughter Josie has autism, is ‘disgusted at the lack of thought and consideration for the local community’.
She said: “My daughter is particularly aware of sounds. She can hear things that I don’t. The level of noise that wind turbines create would be something that she would pick up on.
“They have not considered the local community and it seems to be very ill thought out. The impact would be vast.”

I am having exactly the same problem, here in Ontario. Despite having a letter from my son’s specialist, saying that he would be seriously harmed by the incessant noise, from the 600+ ft., 3MW wind turbines, not one government office, government official, politician, or anyone in the wind industry, (including CANwea), would lift a finger to help, or do anything to rectify the situation!!! I am being forced to work toward raising the money necessary to sue them all for negligence. My son’s Dr. has said, that she cannot believe that it has had to come to this. This is obviously a money-grab, and has nothing to do with “improving” our environment!
I don’t get it as well Chevy. We imagine because we live in Canada where we have one of the most stringent health protection laws someone, somewhere would be willing to listen. But we are finding this is not the case. Even without studies being done one can easily consider the noise, vibration, flicker and movement of these monoliths may have some issue with children with sensitivities. Yet here in Ontario the quiet regarding this issue is deafening. Even in the U.K. this has already been considered and accepted as fact.

We can’t give up trying to make people listen. Our children’s future depends on our perseverance.
Don’t ever under estimate the tenacity and strength of a parent protecting their child. The fight isn’t over it has only just begun. All of our children must be protected. No one has the right to put any child including my mine, in harm’s way.
