Pile Driving Noise & Critical Adverse Impacts on Marine Life

North Atlantic Right Whale

Off shore wind is actively being developed along the East Coast of the United States. Permits have been issued which allow wind projects to harm, harass and kill marine life. Reports are adding up for a disturbing number of marines deaths, as sonar surveying of the ocean floor and pile driving for the installation of wind turbines have commenced.

Boat strikes and entanglement in fishing gear contribute to whale deaths. The construction and operations of off shore wind now adds an additional human caused stress to marine species. Urgency and alarms are being raised for sustainable populations levels of the North Atlantic Right Whale, and other marine species within our global oceans ecosystems.

The critically endangered North Atlantic Right Whale numbers less than 400 individuals. Some experts predict extinction of the species with just one more death of a female whale.

Noise from wind turbine pile driving operations off the shores of Nantucket were measured by an independent researcher and are published in a technical report.

Technical Report: Pile Driving Noise Survey, November 2, 2023
Rand Acoustics, LLC 2

ABSTRACT
This technical report presents the methodology, analysis, and results of an independent investigation of underwater noise levels from wind turbine pile driving operations, conducted southwest of Nantucket on November 2, 2023.
Keywords: noise, offshore, survey, vessel, hydrophone, pile driving, piling, hammer, threshold, transmission loss, peak, RMS, SEL, thermocline, bubble curtain

FOREWORD
This technical report serves as a comprehensive document intended to provide valuable insights, analysis, and information pertaining to wind turbine pile driving noise. It has been prepared to support understanding of pile driving noise levels versus distance for a diverse audience, including professionals, researchers, policymakers, and interested stakeholders. The primary purpose of this report is to facilitate informed decision-making, foster discussion, contribute to the advancement of knowledge in this field, and improve noise control protections for the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale and other ESA-listed mammals and marine species

The Climate-Change Circus

By Rupert Darwall National Post September 22, 2013 4:00 AM

gaia cult

This article about the corrupted IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) says it like it is. The church of global warming, its high priests and deluded followers have a small technical problem. Global warming……It’s been on holidays for fifteen years. Ooooooppppps.

Their function is to serve as canonical texts for global-warming orthodoxy, providing an updated climate-change catechism for its followers. Writing in the Times of London last week, the current chief scientific adviser to the British government and his three predecessors stated that the IPCC will present “even greater confidence” that the climate is warming as a result of human activities. Only, as the rest of the world knows, observed temperatures haven’t risen for at least a decade and a half.

Sun News:Running on empty

LORNE GUNTER | QMI AGENCY 7:39 am, September 11th, 2013

Well, well. Another well written article on this scamdle called climate change/global warming. Lets keep shining that bright light on these cockroaches. The profiteers of doom and their alarmist sheeple cannot keep the lies going against the tide of a little something called reality. Here is an excerpt of that article:

You see, the Earth hasn’t warmed in the past 16 or 17 years, even though the production of carbon dioxide has continued apace.

And it is becoming harder and harder for global warming’s cheerleaders on the IPCC to square that circle.

As an increasing number of scientists begin to question the so-called consensus on climate change, the IPCC has pushed harder and harder for ever more dramatic and alarming predictions in AR5. Hence the delay.

Consider just a few recent announcements.

First, there were a few reports on Monday that Arctic sea ice is 60% greater than it was this time last year.

The northern ice cap begins to refreeze in September, so that means the slow shrinkage of Arctic ice may be reversing.

One year of ice growth does not make a trend, but imagine the hysterical headlines if it were the other way around – if the ice cap was 60% smaller.

Climate Science Exploited For Political Agenda

TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Climatism or global warming alarmism is the most prominent recent example of science being coopted to serve a political agenda, writes Richard Lindzen of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the in the fall 2013 issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons.

another excerpt from this journal

Lindzen writes: “Global climate alarmism has been costly to society, and it has the potential to be vastly more costly. It has also been damaging to science, as scientists adjust both data and even theory to accommodate politically correct positions. How can one escape from the Iron Triangle when it produces flawed science that is immensely influential and is forcing catastrophic public policy?”

and this

Escape from climate alarmism will be more difficult than from Lysenkoism, in Lindzen’s view, because Global Warming has become a religion. It has a global constituency and has coopted almost all institutional science. Nevertheless, he believes “the cracks in the scientific claims for catastrophic warming are…becoming much harder for the supporters to defend.”

PPEC News: APPEC Appeals ERT Decision on Human Health

Fellow APPEC Members:

On August 2 APPEC filed a Notice of Appeal to the Divisional Court of Ontario challenging the Environmental Review Tribunal’s decision on human health.  Due to the long weekend the board delayed issuing the news release below until today.

The grounds for appeal of all ERT decisions are perceived errors in law.  APPEC’s Notice (attached) states:  “ The Tribunal erred in law and/or acted unreasonably by failing to apply the appropriate standard of proof in assessing the Appellant’s evidence, and thereby misinterpreting and misapplying the criteria established under section 145.2.1(2)(a) of the EPA.”  Specifically, it erred in finding that that the evidence did not establish a causal link between wind turbines and either direct or indirect serious harm to human health at the 40 dBA limit or at 550-m setbacks.

Despite filing an appeal by the statutory deadline, the board continues to review the grounds because this is another expensive legal undertaking and carries with it the liability for costs.  Gilead Power, in its Notice of Appeal, is seeking costs from the Prince Edward County Field Naturalists.  The APPEC board therefore wants to be fairly certain of the potential for a positive outcome and especially of APPEC’s capability to oppose all wind development in the County.   Since an appeal on health applies to every Ontario wind project, it is part of APPEC’s strategy in fighting wpd.

The next stage of the appeal process requires APPEC to clarify its legal arguments within 30 days.  During this time the board will be consulting further with our lawyer as well as watching the progress of other relevant Ontario legal cases, two of which involve a Canadian Charter of Human Rights challenge.

In making a decision to proceed with the appeal the board would find it useful to hear from APPEC members.  Please reply with your own views this week so the board can gauge the extent of member support.

Regards,

Henri Garand

Chair, APPEC

Picton, Ontario/ The Alliance to Protect Prince Edward County (APPEC) announced today they have filed an Appeal to the Ontario Divisional Court of the recent Environmental Review Tribunal Decision (ERT) on serious harm posed to human health by a wind turbine development at Ostrander Point, in Prince Edward County.

According to APPEC legal counsel, Eric Gillespie, this Appeal is based on alleged errors in law found in the ERT July 3, 2013 Decision on APPEC’s Appeal of the Renewable Energy Approval issued to Gilead Power by the Ministry of the Environment.
