Turbine noise creating health problems for students

Illinois School Superintendent Letter:

This letter was submitted to the Vermilion Illinois County Board Chairman Gary Weinard by William C. Mulvaney, the Superintendent of Schools for Armstrong Township High School and Armstrong-Ellis CUD #61 in Illinois. Mr. Mulvaney also served on a wind ordinance panel. His message about students and families suffering the impacts of turbine noise and flicker is important….

I have noticed that we have some children in our district that appear to be having some medical issues related to the wind turbines. Headaches, lack of sleep and jaw issues seem to be the most common. The students also complain about not being able to sleep or not getting a full night’s sleep due to sound issues.

We have also been advised that we will be losing a couple of families because the wind turbines were placed close to homes and the families can no longer handle the flicker and noise issues.

  1. But of couse these IWT health issues were going to show up as school problems.
Notice that the superintendant said “appeared” because he is not a physician and this is the way schools have to handle illness issues.
If a child is ill then they can develop learning problems. And if a child misses too many days of school then this could end up in the courts or have to be schooled at home.

This shadow flicker issue was put over on rural people because rural people didn’t know about the ordinances and by-laws that urban areas use to control shadow flicker issues from flashing signs. If city people don’t have to put up with shadow flicker then why should rural people put up with shadow flicker.
